- Plot Synopsis
- Javier, an old man who lives out of his truck in the desert, buries anonymous bodies for a living. One day, on a routine grave dig, Javier is visited by an apparition that not only transforms his apathy but also sets him on the path to redemption.
- About the Music
- For the music in this film, I decided to use a solo instrument for a majority of the score to connect to the loneliness and isolation of the protagonist, and the simplicity of the film's overall aesthetic. To me, the acoustic guitar seemed like the most appropriate choice. Something about its timbre and resonance paired very nicely with the tone and setting of the film. The director (Malachi Rempen) was very adamant that the music should be emotionally understated, paralleling the reserved nature of the main character, Javier. That's not to say the music is without emotion; there is a constant sense of melancholy, as Javier is a man who is unsatisfied with his life and occupation. As he begins his transformation, however, the score begins to subtly shift in tone as well.
