- Synopsis
- Megs, a 22 year old scavenging loner who has turned her back on civilization and its cruel and cut-throat environment by hiding away in an abandoned storage unit. Isolated in this cluttered unit, Megs discovers an orphaned girl, Jade, who adamantly believes that malicious shadows lurk the halls in order to eliminate their very lives. Megs does her best to distract the terrified girl by introducing a fantasy world with stories about a last remaining bucolic city while facing her own fears and finding the courage to confront the truth and save Jade.
- About the Music
- I had the chance to use sounds and instruments in this score that I've never used in any of my previous projects. A lot of my ideas came from the extremely detailed production design and the setting of the film. We find Megs and Jade in this post-apocalyptic world where there's all kinds of trash and debris, and civilization has all but ceased to exist. I felt the instrumentation of the score could coincide with the environment by incorporating "found" instruments, or objects that wouldn't typically be used to create music. It's almost as though Megs and Jade had found the instruments for their own score! One such instrument is the blown bottle, heard especially on Track 2. At various times I also used small, unusual percussion instruments such as a jar of change. Finally, I used the old trick of running my finger around the rim of a wine glass to get a pitched hum. This effect can be heard as a subtle part of the music near the end of the Opening Credits cue.
